Tiramisu and other wonderful sweet treats
The charm of Italian desserts lies in their simplicity. Each bite is like tasting a little slice of Italy. Whether it’s a family celebration or a romantic dinner, these delightful sweets are the perfect way to mark the occasion.
But which are the most interesting Italian desserts? What is worth knowing about them? What are their specialities? Join us for an insight into the world of Italien desserts in this article.
The classic favourite: tiramisu
Perhaps it’s fair to say that among Italian desserts, tiramisu is the uncrowned king. A creamy, coffee and cocoa wonder that has conquered the world. However, the main secret is probably its simplicity.
The tiramisu is made up of layers that fit together:
- coffee-dipped baby sponge cake,
- perfectly complemented by the creaminess of mascarpone,
- and the uniqueness of the cocoa makes every bite heavenly.
When making tiramisu, of course, we also take great care to follow the classic recipe and use only the best ingredients. So the taste experience can be truly authentic.

Cannoli: crunchy sweets filled with cream
Not only for people who like sweet dishes, we dare to suggest that the taste experience of cannoli is definitely worth trying at least once. This Sicilian delicacy is made from crispy fried pasta filled with sweet ricotta cream.
The decoration is often chocolate or pistachio pieces. Be prepared for every bite of cannoli to be a burst of flavour. The crunchy texture of the dough and the silkiness of the cream are in perfect synergy.

Panna cotta: the creamy wonder
Another “big star” of Italian desserts is panna cotta. The word itself is a catchy one, as the original term literally means “boiled cream”. It’s no surprise then that this simple but extremely elegant dessert is made with cream and sugar.
It also has a speciality in the way it is served. The panna cotta is usually served with gelatine jelly, fruit sauce or caramel sauce. We think that its heavenly creaminess and soft texture make it the perfect ending to a delicious dinner.

Gelato: the Italian ice cream
We cannot talk about Italian desserts without mentioning gelato. Italian gelato is typically lighter and creamier than traditional ice creams. It also tends to contain less fat. However, it’s heaven to eat.
The fresh ingredients in gelato, such as fruit, chocolate or hazelnuts, harmonise perfectly with the creamy base. Obviously we’re talking about a seasonal Italian dessert, but in summer it’s almost unmissable.
Tartufo: the sweet surprise
Tartufo is an Italian ice cream speciality. It consists of a ball of ice cream with a little surprise in the middle. This surprise is usually fruit puree or chocolate. But that’s not all!
The whole dessert is covered in chocolate or cocoa. Thanks to this, when you cut it in half, you get a fabulously beautiful layered confection. This Italian dessert is particularly spectacular, but it’s not just the taste that makes it unique.
